Abstract(s)
desportiva.
ABSTRACT: The aim of the study was to evaluate the cognitive, emotional and behavioral consequences of the final transition process of sports career in former athletes with Portuguese nationality and national or international competitive level, considering the type of sport (team and individual). After a previous adaptation of the questionnaire Athletic Retirement Survey (ARS) to the Portuguese language, the sampling took place by means of a hyperlink, allowing the participants direct access to the questionnaire and direct transfer of the responses to a database. In this study, significant differences were found between team sports and individual sports in the dimensions “age of retirement,” “family reasons for retirement,” “positive emotional reactions” and “coping strategy planning”. These differences may reflect from different social motivations and skills acquired throughout the sports career.
