Abstract(s)
This study aims to identify the role of Big Five personality in the decision of pursuit studies after secondary school. It was collected a sample of 98 subjects, 50 % were male and 50 % female, who have completed secondary school between 2004/05 and 2010/11. The age of the participants is between 18 and 41 years, the average age is 23.72 years. The subjects who continued studies correspond to 68.4 % of the participants and those who didn't continue correspond only to 31.6 % of the sample. A questionnaire was administrated in the survey of academic decisions with the BFI-44, original version (BFI, John & Srivastava, 1999), as an instrument for the assessment of personality and that could also be answered in the web. This is a correlacional-study, for independent samples, whose selection of participants was done by direct approach, asking subjects if they had finished the 12th year of secondary school. On the basis of the results obtained, with a significance level of 0.10, it was found that the subjects more conscientious revealed greater tendency to continue their studies after secondary school, compared to those with lower levels in this dimension. The conscientiousness is the only dimension with predictive ability for all occupational groups and studies related to work. In general, there is a tendency for subjects that pursuit studies to show higher values in the dimensions of extroversion, agreeableness and openness to experience, but the major difference between.
