Abstract(s)
Sleep problems haven been associated with childrenâs problems and competences. The aim of the present study was to analyze the relationship between sleep and childrenâs problems/competences reported by teachers. Our sample was composed by 38 students, with ages between 6 and 9 years old. Sleep data were collect with actigraphs (used for 7 days/nights) and with parentsâ sleep questionnaires (CHSQ). Teacherâs reports (TCRS) were used to collect problems/competencesâ data. Bed time (general) is negatively associated with Social assertiveness; and Get up time on the weekends is positively associated with Learning problems, and negatively with Good student/Task orientation. Night wakingâs problems, reported by parents, showed to be related in a negative way with Social assertiveness, Peer sociability and Global competences. Considering that sleep problems are somewhat frequents in Portuguese children, and that sleep problems and habits showed to be associated with childrenâs competences /problems, it is important to take these problems/habits into account and to try to solve them and/or create better sleep habits.
