Abstract(s)
Objectives: to study the perceptions of people with dementia about their quality of life and the domains considered important by them. This investigation involved a descriptive analysis of quality of life values and a descriptive case study with a linear-analytic structure about the domains of quality of life considered important by an accidental sample of 12 people with mild to severe Alzheimerâs diagnostic, living at home or in institutions. Instruments: a socio-demographic questionnaire that includes a group of questions about the interviewed data and a group of open questions; and the SF-36 Scale. Conclusions: the group of people with dementia interviewed showed a relatively good perception of their quality of life in some aspects; people with mild, moderate and severe dementia considered various and different domains in their assessment of quality of life, and those domains are represented in different studies and measuring instruments, suggesting the importance of the personsâ own perspective about his/hers quality of life. This study raises questions concerning the relevance of the perspective of people with dementia about their quality of life. It would be interesting to conduct a study with a superior number of people in all the different regions of the country, collecting pertinent information for the development of appropriate interventions that attend to different characteristics, needs and interests.
