dc.description.abstractA presente investigação teve como objetivo principal mapear, explorar e avançar no conhecimento e evidência científica sobre os fatores que determinam a permanência da vítima de violência doméstica, do sexo feminino, na relação abusiva. Concretamente, procurou-se perceber e explorar o conceito de violência doméstica, analisando os fatores preditores da permanência na relação abusiva. Estes objetivos foram prosseguidos através de um estudo qualitativo, que envolveu a revisão sistemática sobre o tema central da dissertação. Para tal, usou-se as bases de dados (APA PsycINFO, APA PsycArticles, MEDLINE e Web of Science), com os seguintes descritores: Domestic violence, Intimate partner violence, Domestic abuse, Spousal abuse, Stay, Persist, End, Return, Remain e Battered Women. Os resultados obtidos sugerem que fatores como dependência emocional e económica, nível de escolaridade, empregabilidade, número de dependentes (filhos), perturbações mentais e distorções cognitivas afetam a decisão de permanência na relação abusiva. Procedeu-se à discussão dos resultados, atendendo às investigações empíricas no tema. Por fim, são identificadas as limitações deste estudo e apontadas direções relevantes para estudos futurospor
dc.description.abstractThe present study aimed to map, explore, and expand scientific knowledge about the factors that influence the persistence of women who are victims of domestic violence in abusive relationships. More specifically, it sought to understand and examine the concept of domestic violence by analysing the predictive factors associated with remaining in an abusive relationship. To achieve these objectives, a qualitative approach was adopted, involving a systematic review focused on the central theme of this dissertation. The databases consulted were APA PsycINFO, APA PsycArticles, MEDLINE, and Web of Science, using the following descriptors: domestic violence, intimate partner violence, domestic abuse, spousal abuse, stay, persist, end, return, remain, and battered women. The findings indicate that several factors contribute to a victim’s decision to remain in an abusive relationship, with particular emphasis on cultural influences. In addition, emotional and financial dependence, educational level, employability, number of dependents (children), mental health conditions, and cognitive distortions were also found to play an important role in this decision-making process. The results were discussed in light of empirical studies on the topic. Finally, the main limitations of the study are presented, providing useful directions for future research.eng
