Abstract(s)
Problem: Although there is a recent increase in research in relation to studies on the use of deliberate practice in psychotherapy, there is a noticeable gap in the literature on the application of this pedagogical practice in university education. Objective: To investigate the impact of deliberate practice on psychology students, based on factors that promote differences between deliberate practice and traditional teaching (recommended reading and lectures) on the development of empathic skills. Method: Evaluate the empathy variable over three moments in two distinct groups, with a total sample of fifteen psychology students (six in the control group and nine in the deliberate practice group). For data collection, the instrument used was the Measure Expressed Empathy (MEE) scale. Data were analyzed using statistical procedures using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program. Results: The results suggest a difference between the two groups, with the deliberate practice group showing much higher values than the control group. Conclusions: The data point to the fact that the training tasks proposed to the participants played a crucial role in the process of identifying areas where their performance had revealed failures, thus contributing to a marked improvement in performance.
