Abstract(s)
Contudo,
poucos estudos científicos exploraram a relação entre as Competências Sociais e
Emocionais (i.e. Autogestão e Motivação, Autoconsciência, Consciência Social e
As
ABSTRACT: Through the years, Social and Emotional Competencies have been suggested as a protective element against different types of behavioural problems. However, only a few scientific studies have studied the relationship between Social and Emotional Competencies and patterns of antisocial functioning. This investigation studied the relationship between Social and Emotional Competencies (i.e., Se lf Management and Motivation, Self-Awareness, Social Awareness and Prosocial Behavior and Decision Making) and patterns of antisocial functioning as characteristics of Impulsivity/Irresponsibility and patterns of antisocial functioning in interpersonal relationships. This investigation has a sample of 312 male inmates, with ages ranging from 20 to 83 years old. The participants completed self-report questionnaires that evaluated Social and Emotional Competencies and antisocial traits. The analyses indicated an inverse relationship between different dimensions of Social and Emotional Competencies and antisocial personality traits. This study suggests the importance of interventions to focus specifically on the Decision Making dimension of Social and Emotional Competencies in order to decrease antisocial characteristics in this population.
