Abstract(s)
desempenho do sujeito.
While there has been studies done on the sign and accuracy of feedback, little is known about the interactive effects of these two main aspects of feedback on specific types of cognitive and behavioral responses. This study used 94 college students to study the influence of the sign and credibility of feedback on goal setting and performance in task performance. The age average of the participants was situated between 21 and 24 years old and they were all asked to performed a creativity test that was subjected to several manipulations. The results of this study demonstrate that the feedback signal has a major effect on the performance of the subject. Subjects who were subjected to conditions of negative feedback had higher performances than subjects under conditions of positive feedback. Furthermore, it was concluded that the feedback signal interacts with credibility of the feedback on self-defined goals and performance of the subject. Subjects who received more credible negative feedback set higher targets and performed the task with better performance than the subjects under conditions of feedback with lower credibility, whereas subjects who received positive feedback with more credibility did not set higher targets or fulfilled the task with performance significantly higher than subjects who received positive feedback with weak credibility. Finally, the study results also suggest that the feedback signal is associated with ability (past experience) in determining performance on the task.
