Abstract(s)
desde factores socioeconómicos, culturais e institucionais a factores ideológicos.
ABSTRACT: Although the last years have been extremely important for the generalization of the political code of conduct to for women, there still exists a deficit of gender in a worldwide context. Literature has highlighted several factors that can contribute to this reality that go from socioeconomic, cultural and institutional to ideological factors. The present study, analyses the relations between professional and family roles, in a sample of women members of parliament from the most significant political parties in Portugal, emphasizing on the one hand the conditions enhancer of conflict and, on the other hand, those which are facilitator of the relation between the two roles. It is a fundamental objective of this review to analyze a multidimensional structure of the interface work-family that comprehends both positive and negative aspects as well as two-way influences: from work to family and from family to work (spillover directions). The aim is to understand question related to life of women with political positions, analyzing the coexistence or conflict of roles socially recognized, such as being a woman, a companion, a mother and a member of the parliament. To recognize the main difficulties and identify the critical factors of personal and political party life that is connected, mainly to the ascension of women in this context. The results allow us to verify the existence of a spillover muldimensional structure, as well as the difficulty that is felt on a gender perspective in this area. In this sense, results highlight the important role that facilitation of work in family plays in the determination of women members of the parliament reaction, to organizational practices conciliator of work and family, showing us an explanation about the mechanism by which “family friendly practices” have an impact on them. This paper is concluded pointing out some practical implications of the study and pointing out some clues for future investigation.
