fortalece a união conjugal, embora perturbe o envolvimento sexual. No comportamento
ABSTRACT: Despite the changes that we observe in the course of the father's role in recent decades, companies tend to give the female gender, greater involvement in responsibility for children. Breastfeeding is one of those charges, defended by WHO as the exclusive feeding practices of children in the first 6 months of life. We want to know what the possible impacts of this practice for the father to the health and welfare of the couple and the marital relationship. Thus, the objectives of this study are to access the experiences of couples who choose this method food. Our sample consisted of a non-probabilistic and convenience, for 15 pairs of Portuguese and Caucasian, who breastfed their children for a minimum period of three months. This is an exploratory, descriptive and cross, whose method of data collection was semi-structured individual (30 interviews), by implementing a script of questions constructed for this purpose. The technique of analysis of qualitative data was content analysis, and it was decided to conduct a thematic analysis and Frequency. The main results indicate that breastfeeding does not require decision-making, being a first option, given the beliefs about the benefits to the child. It is experienced by couples from a mixture of charm and vulnerability, where was fatigue (physical and psychological), the spirit of sacrifice and lack of availability to the marital partner and the father's feelings of exclusion (from the partner and child). Couples underestimate this malaise, mainly because it is transient and they are convinced that it is not derived from the practice of breastfeeding, but is intrinsic to the transition to parenthood. The loss of modesty in the face of breastfeeding in public can be advantageous for the maintenance of social pair bonds and to minimize the feelings of deprivation of liberty. The couples were ambivalent and confused with the benefits of breastfeeding for the couple's relationship, but most recognized that this strengthens the marital union, though disturbing sexual involvement. In paternal behavior, participants in the sample showed an interest in the egalitarian position with regard to gender, but there are still some traditionalists views and behaviors. To continue the exploration of the issue and warn future parental dyads, is evidently crucial in order to be made possible the opportunity to choose consciously and informed to minimize this potential risk factor for early weaning.
