O stress parental e a ansiedade nas crianças em idade pré-escolar : A relação com a estrutura familiar

Esta investigação analisou a relação entre o stress parental e a ansiedade nas
crianças tendo em conta a estrutura familiar (famílias nucleares ou monoparentais). A
amostra é constituída por cerca de 137 indivíduos, do sexo feminino e masculino, pais
de crianças que frequentam o ensino pré-escolar com idades compreendidas entre os 3 e
os 6 anos. Este estudo é do tipo correlacional, transversal, de carácter descritivo e
comparativo. Foram utilizados três instrumentos de avaliação, um Questionário Sócio-
Demográfico (Paixão e Patrão, 2012), uma Escala Ansiedade para Crianças em idade
Pré-Escolar (Spence, Rapee, McDonald & Ingram, 2001) e uma Escala de Stress
Parental (Berry & Jones,1995). Os resultados evidenciaram uma relação entre o stress
parental e a ansiedade nas crianças em idade pré-escolar. A grande maioria dos pais
apresentaram níveis de stress parental intermédios e as crianças, níveis de ansiedade
acima da média. A estrutura familiar demonstrou apenas ter impacto na ansiedade das
crianças em idade pré-escolar, nomeadamente, ao nível da ansiedade de danos físicos e
da ansiedade generalizada, em famílias cujo pai da criança não se encontra presente.
ABSTRACT: The present study analyzed the relationship between parental stress and child anxiety regarding family structure (nuclear families or single parents). The sample covered 137 individuals, males and females, parents of children attending pre-school educational establishments, from both genders, aged between 3 and 6 years. This is a correlational, transversal, descriptive and comparative study. The instruments used were a Social-Demographic Questionnaire (Paixão e Patrão, 2012), the Preschool Anxiety Scale (Spence, Rapee, McDonald & Ingram, 2001) and the Parental Stress Scale (Berry & Jones, 1995). The results showed a relationship between parental stress and child anxiety in preschoolers. Most of the parents presented medium levels of parental stress, and the children revealed anxiety levels above the average, namely, at anxiety of physical injury fears and generalized anxiety, in families where the father isn’t present.
