Abstract(s)
suporte e a regulação emocional.
ABSTRACT: Parents are the main socialization agents of their children’s emotions, having a crucial impact on their capacity of emotional regulation. In this sense, it is important to investigate which factors may influence the way parental figures react to children's negative emotions and the consequent impact on their capacity for emotional regulation. The present study aimed to analyse the relationship between the parental reactions to children's negative emotions and their emotional regulation, mediated by the sense of parental competence. The sample consists of 174 fathers and mothers (M=39.47; SD=4.58) whose children are in primary school. Data was collected in an online format, through the Qualtrics platform. The results showed that dimensions of the sense of parental competence determine, at least partially, the influence of unsupportive reactions on lability. However, it cannot be concluded that this happens between supportive reactions and emotion regulation. Even so, the dimension of self-efficacy seems to determine, at least partially, the influence of unsupportive reactions on lability. This study supports the notion that parents feel less self-efficacious and less satisfied has an impact on their tendency to use unsupportive reactions, which in turn contributes negatively on children's emotion regulation capacity.
