Abstract(s)
SHL People & Solutions.
ABSTRACT: In many professional situations, such as vocational guidance and personnel selection, the psychologist, sometimes, need to make decisions based on psychological assessment. The quality of those decisions is largely dependent on the quality of the measurement tools available and the technical competence and ethics of the professional (Almeida & Primi, 2000). In Portugal, there is a lack of assessment tools of Critical Reasoning. One of the few tests available is the CRTB (Critical Reasoning Test Battery) of SHL People & Solutions. This shortage has motivated this work which aim is the study of translation, adaptation and validation of the short version of CRTB. It consists of three tests: Verbal Assessment Test, Interpretation of Numerical Data Test and Diagram Series Test for people with 12 Grade as minimum qualifications required. The sample consists of 178 participants, of whom 77% have a university degree, 58% of female gender and 42% of male gender with a mean age of 32 years and a standard deviation of 6.98. It was found that the psychometric qualities require some adjustments and this first reduced version is not a favorable alternative compared to the original version of CRTB. The Verbal Evaluation Test proved easy for the sample and the Test of Interpretation of Numerical Data proved difficult. Significant differences were found with the variables: gender, qualifications, training area, work area and the variable final mean course proved to correlate significantly with the Verbal and Numerical Critical Reasoning. Considerations and implications of the findings are discussed throughout the study.
