Abstract(s)
A liderança é um tema cada vez mais discutido no contexto organizacional. As empresas
têm assistido a vários exemplos das consequências nefastas que uma má liderança pode trazer
para as mesmas.
O presente estudo teve como propósito estudar o efeito que o tipo de liderança tem no
desempenho dos colaboradores de uma organização. Com base na revisão de literatura
realizada, foram formuladas as hipóteses de que a liderança ética influencia positivamente o
desempenho e que a liderança tóxica influencia negativamente o desempenho, pelo que se
espera que estes dois tipos de liderança opostos tenham um efeito no desempenho. Participaram
neste estudo, de natureza quantitativa e hipoptético-dedutiva, 361 participantes. Os resultados
indicam que a liderança ética tem de facto um efeito positivo e significativo no desempenho e
que a liderança tóxica tem um efeito significativo e negativo parcial no desempenho. Este
estudo contribui, assim, para a investigação do campo da liderança e a sua relação com o
desempenho, especialmente no contexto organizacional. É de extrema importância que as
organizações tenham bons planos de avaliação, desenvolvimento e acompanhamento dos seus
líderes. As implicações práticas e teóricas do estudo foram discutidas.
ABSTRACT: Leadership is an increasingly discussed topic in the organizational context. Companies have seen several examples of the consequences that bad leadership can bring to them. The present dissertation aimed to study the effect that the type of leadership has on the performance of an organization's employees. Based on the literature review, the formulated hypotheses were: ethical leadership positively influences performance and toxic leadership negatively influences performance, so these two opposing types of leadership are expected to have an effect on performance. This quantitative and hypothetical-deductive study had 361 participants. The results indicate that ethical leadership does have a significant and positive effect on performance and that toxic leadership has a significant and partial negative effect on performance. This study thus contributes to the investigation of leadership and its relationship with performance, especially in the organizational context. It is extremely important that organizations have good plans for evaluating, developing and monitoring their leaders. The practical and theoretical implications of the study were discussed.
