Abstract(s)
This thesis aimed to study the influence of psychological variables on the performance of poker players. Specifically, we studied the emotional intelligence and decision-making processes in poker players, and tested how these same variables affect their performance. The sample of the present study consisted of 98 participants, aged between 21 and 48 years (M = 30.53, SD = 5.39). The results showed that intuitive decision-making is a relevant variable in this context, having a positive and significant relationship with performance, not only perceived, but also objective. It was also possible to verify a significant and positive relationship between the experience of poker players (operationalized through the number of years of professional practice) and objective performance. The tested mediation analysis did not provide evidence for the hypothesis that the positive predictive effect of experience on player performance is mediated by intuitive decision making.
