O meu corpo e eu: A imagem corporal e a auto-estima na adolescĂȘncia

A presente investigação, tem como objetivos estudar: (1)a influĂȘncia do gĂ©nero na
auto-estima; (2) a influĂȘncia do gĂ©nero na perceção da imagem corporal; (3) a influĂȘncia da
idade na satisfação com a imagem corporal e na auto-estima; (4) a influĂȘncia da nacionalidade
na satisfação com a imagem corporal e na auto-estima; (5) se a imagem corporal estå
correlacionada com a auto-estima. Participaram neste estudo, 67 adolescentes Portugueses,
com idades compreendidas entre os 12 e os 18 anos (27 do sexo masculino e 40 do sexo
feminino). A recolha dos dados realizou-se mediante a aplicação de dois questionårios:
Questionårio da Perceção da Imagem Corporal; Escala de Auto-conceito e Auto-Estima.
Diversos estudos aponta para que a Imagem Corporal estĂĄ relacionada, positivamente, com a
Auto-Estima na fase da adolescĂȘncia, principalmente no sexo feminino. Fatores como o
género, idade e nacionalidade podem influenciar as variåveis em estudo. Os resultados
apontam para diferenças significativas no que diz respeito ao género e à perceção da imagem
corporal, mostrando que os meninos se sentem mais satisfeitos com a sua imagem
relativamente às meninas. Contudo, não foram observadas diferenças significativas perante o
género na auto-estima, nem perante o estudo da idade e nacionalidade para com a satisfação
com a imagem corporal e a auto-estima. A auto-estima demonstrou estar relacionada
negativamente com a perceção da imagem corporal
This research aims to study: (1) the influence of gender on self-esteem; (2) the influence of gender on perceptions of body image; (3) the influence of age on satisfaction with body image and self-esteem; (4) the influence of nationality in satisfaction with body image and self-esteem; (5) if the body image is correlated with self-esteem. Participated in this study, 67 Portuguese adolescents aged between 12 and 18 years (27 males and 40 females). Data collection was carried out by applying two questionnaires: Questionnaire Perception of Body Image; Scale Self-concept and Self-Esteem. Several studies suggest that body image is related positively with self-esteem in adolescence, particularly in females. Factors such as gender, age, nationality may influence the study variables. The results reveal significant with regard to gender and perception of body image differences, showing that boys feel more satisfied with their image in relation to girls. However, no significant differences were observed against gender on self-esteem, or before the study of age and nationality to satisfaction with body image and self-esteem. Self-esteem has been shown to be negatively related to the perception of body image.
