ABSTRACT: Objective: The concept of psychic structure proves to be central to various psychoanalytic theories of personality, and the phenomenon of structural change to which it relates is essential to understanding the personality change that results from psychoanalysis and other psychotherapies based on psychotherapy. However, currently there is still no consensus on a conceptual level of several theoretical perspectives in psychoanalysis regarding both to the notion of psychic structure and structural changes that may result during the process of psychotherapy as the progressive changes in patients' lives after psychotherapy. This thesis presents an analysis about the development of research in psychotherapy, particularly concerning psychoanalysis, trying to understand which variables operate throughout the therapeutic process, causing changes in the psychic structure of the subject.
