Abstract(s)
participantes, 97 do género masculino (50%) e 97 do género feminino (50%), cujas idades
ABSTRACT: This is an exploratory study with an observational character, intended to compare the Social Representations that exist in between men and women regarding contraception, namely vasectomy, including knowledge of the procedure. We used a questionnaire to help us identify some of the important variables regarding vasectomy’s social representations. Opinions were gathered from 194 participants, 97 men (50%) and 97 women (50%), with ages ranging from 20 to 50 years old and averaging 29,16. The sample was collected in a convenient way, taking into consideration characteristics such as gender, age, marital status, religion, duration of married life, number of children, profession and academic qualifications. The gathered information was analysed using the content analysis technique. For our main variable, gender, we found statistically significant differences in all analysed categories. Given the recent changes in how we see our sexuality, it would be important that these facts be widespread in order to reach a greater number of people. Easy access media, such as television, internet and magazines / books are a good form of disclosure.
