Abstract(s)
participantes.
Aprendizagem Interpessoal, a Catarse, o Setting / Ritual, o papel do Terapeuta, a
Quanto as limitaçÔes metodológicas,
ABSTRACT.: Psychotherapeutic Playback Theatre (PPT) is a form of psychotherapeutic intervention through theatre that combines elements of theatrical improvisation with therapeutic principles. This approach allows participants to share and explore their personal stories in a safe and supportive environment. As a relatively recent format, existing research has so far focused only on very specific populations and contexts, highlighting the need for further exploration to understand the impacts of this practice in different therapeutic settings. In this context, the present study aims to understand the personal experiences of a number of participants in PPT groups that met weekly for 12 sessions. A qualitative approach was employed to analyse the dataâThematic Analysis, supported by the MAXQDA software programâbased on data obtained from 9 participants. The group consisted of 2 male and 7 female participants, aged between 19 and 70 years. Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted with the participants. The data obtained allowed for the identification of four main themes and nine subthemes. The primary themes were: (1) the specific characteristics of BPD; (2) the presence of therapeutic factors within the group; (3) the experience of a safe space; and (4) perceived changes throughout the process. Furthermore, nine subthemes were identified: Universality, Group Cohesion, Altruism, Interpersonal Learning, Catharsis, Setting/Ritual, the Role of the Therapist, Personal Transformation, and the Development of Personal Competencies. This set of results established connections between various aspects of the participants' lived experiences, which were generally positive, and highlighted the specificities of PPT and the creation of a safe space. Regarding methodological limitations for future studies, it is suggested that future research includes a larger sample, allowing for greater representativeness and more robust data. Additionally, it would be important to assess its effectiveness in multiple cultural and clinical contexts, expanding its impact and applicability in contemporary psychotherapeutic practice.
