Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Eric Arthur Blair, under his pseudonym George Orwell, was one of the most read and influential authors of the twentieth century, with a work of unique profundity about the social and politic scene of the British Empire and Europe of the first half of the century. The person behind the pseudonym, however, remains in popular culture as unusually complex and mysterious. Thereby, the purpose of this essay was to analyze the life and work of the author, using three of the main author biographies, according to the psychoanalytic point of view, from which emerged three main dimensions and which this study focused: identifications and their oscillations, schizoid organization and narcissism. This study intended to comprehend how these dimensions conditioned and molded his life, as well as the way they manifested their selves, direct or indirectly, in his literary work.
