Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Cystic fibrosis is a hereditary disease, so far incurable. The aim of this study is to evaluate the suffering of the person with cystic fibrosis, depending on their social support. Inventory of Subjective Suffering Experiences in Illness (ISSEI) and the Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ) were applied to 23 participants. Results showed higher distress in "social-relational" and "psychological" dimensions, satisfaction with social support and a positive association between this variable and subjective distress experiences, in the sense that the greater the number of support people, the less painful “emotional changes" and "future project limitations" sub-dimensions. We conclude that a good social support is important, so as to reduce the suffering and improve the life conditions of the person with cystic fibrosis.
