Abstract(s)
relacionais.
ABSTRACT: This qualitative study aims to understand the goals and the impacts of therapist's relational practice in existential psychotherapy. Based on the significant events that occur in the therapeutic context and on the relational practices that characterize the therapist’s attitude, it was applied the SET 1- Significant Event Therapist - Form. In this study, it was requested the participation of 4 existential therapists and 10 patients, who have been on a therapeutic process in a University Clinic located in Lisbon. The results show that the existential therapists focus on promoting the relational proximity and create an ambience where each client has the chance to feel welcomed accepted and understood (by relational competences). On the other hand, the promotion of reflexivity questioning and awareness is better achieved by relational techniques. Through those, the therapist aims to promote the sense of accountability and self-determination, but also the appropriation and awareness of significant aspects regarding the patient’s world-view. Some of the impacts/goals that have been found (like understanding, reflexivity and awareness) are common to use either relational competences or relational techniques.
