Abstract(s)
This study intends to be a small sample of what is the tendency of the society of Guinea-Bissau to face the issue of Trust in Institutions, taking into account the Cultural Values of that same society. It is supported by the study by Hofstede and Minkov and supported by the Doctoral Thesis of Doctor Paulo Finuras. The study sample consists of 112 participants, of Guinean nationality, who live and work in the various institutions of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and, whose ages vary between 25 and 59 years, of both sexes, and in percentage terms are 47, 3% male versus 52.7% female. With this study, two objectives were outlined: firstly, it consists of placing the cultural profile of Guinea-Bissau in the 7 dimensions of Hofstede and Minkov, and measuring the degree of citizens' trust in institutions; secondly, to analyze the relationship between cultural values and the level of trust in institutions. As for the methodology, data analysis was carried out considering the qualitative and quantitative methods, particularly factor analysis and simple linear regression. The results reveal a tendency for greater confidence of Guineans in private institutions, while negatively classifying public institutions, those of a judicial nature and social policy, as Finuras found in the other Portuguese-speaking African countries he studied, with the aggravating factor that, in the case of Guinea-Bissau, the most penalized institutions are the armed forces and president of the republic. Like Finuras, some hypotheses formulated, namely H1 and H2, were confirmed.
