Abstract(s)
No geral,
BSTRACT: Within adolescence, juvenile delinquency appears, not only as a pathological symptom, as but also as a way of organizing and solving the inner chaos, that can characterize this phase of development. The purpose of this research was to study the perceptions adolescents have, without an apparent delinquent background, concerning crime, violence and change, taking into consideration a reflection on gender, as well as a comparison with the perceptions of young delinquents studied in a previous research. Thus, 28 adolescents (14 boys and 14 girls) aged 14-17 were interviewed. A qualitative approach was developed. Content analysis was carried out in order to process and analyse the data, using a mixed procedure. According to the results, girls were more participative and showed more sensitivity to personal/inner issues, namely when referring to the causes of crime and violence. In general, there was a stronger commitment when crime was being discussed, and it was more positively assessed in comparison with violence. Change proved to be a concept difficult to define. Throughout the approach to the different topics there was a clear disengagement, linked to the trivialization of crime and violence phenomena. The differences between the so called âaverageâ adolescent and the delinquent adolescent were less evident, since these share similar discourses and problems.
