Abstract(s)
The present study has as its main objective to study the impact that the perceived external noise (performed by the public present in the sports venues) by the athletes, has on their performance perception. By studying the moderating effect of the age variable on the effect of perceived external noise on the perception of performance. And finally, to study the mediating effect of positive and negative emotions on the relationship between perceived external noise and performance perception. The sample consists of 54 participants between the ages of 11 and 50 (M = 19.24, SD = 9.12). In an online survey, participants were divided into three groups according to their age, where they imagined a competition scenario and answered questions related to the noise they perceived coming from the audience, the intensity with which they felt certain emotions and their performance. The results showed that the external noise perceived by athletes is not negatively correlated with their perception of their performance. It was also found that the age of the athletes does not moderate the relationship between perceived external noise and the perception of performance. A global discussion and an appreciation of the results are carried out and limitations and suggestions for future studies are presented.
