Abstract(s)
65 e 97 anos (M=74).
The aim was to study the influence that gender and subjective functional health have on depression. The sample included 408 old-adults, living in urban area (convenience sampling), non-institutionalized, with ages ranging from 65 to 97 years (M=74). The scales applied were the Geriatric Depression Scale-Short Form (GDS-SF; Sheikh & Yesavage, 1986) and the trial version of the Escala de Saúde Funcional Subjectiva [Subjective Functional Health Scale] (ESFS; Diniz, 2007c). The first study consisted in the confirmatory factor analysis (LISREL 8.53) of ESFS, the second one sought to validate the factorial structure of GDS-SF. The third study was to test a Predictor Structural Model of Depression in Old-adults (PSMDO). Once the tests factorial structures were validated, the PSMDO model analysis was tested. Individuals with a better subjective functional health have lower levels of depression; male gender revealed better subjective functional health and lower levels of depression.
