Abstract(s)
mundo do desporto.
Burnout Questionnaire), CART-Q (Coach Athlete Relationship Questionnaire), e Brief COPE.
ABSTRACT: The incidence of burnout in athletes has become an increasingly prevalent phenomenon in the world of sports. The development of burnout has been associated with the quality of the coachathlete relationship. Furthermore, the coping strategies used by athletes are related both to the quality of the coach-athlete relationship and the development of burnout. This study aims to test the influence of the coach-athlete relationship on the levels of burnout experienced by athletes, mediated by the coping strategies employed. A total of 141 participants took part, consisting of athletes between the ages of 16 and 41 (M = 21, SD = 3.44). The variables in the study were assessed using the portuguese versions of the ABQ, Athlete Burnout Questionnaire, CART-Q, Coach Athlete Relationship Questionnaire, and Brief COPE. A negative and statistically significant relationship was found between the quality of the coach-athlete relationship and burnout. There was also a positive association between the quality of the coachathlete relationship and the use of problem-focused coping strategies. In turn, problem-focused coping strategies negatively correlated with burnout levels, in contrast to avoidance-focused strategies, which were positively associated with at least one of the burnout dimensions. No mediating effect of coping strategies was found in the relationship between the quality of the coach-athlete relationship and burnout. The results highlight the importance of investing in the construction and maintenance of positive relationships in the sporting world.
