Abstract(s)
Percebido (MSPSS) e o Brief Cope.
ABSTRACT: This study aimed to investigate the positive body image of young women with breast cancer, considering their perceived social support and the role of coping strategies. Considering that the study on positive body image related to younger women with breast cancer needs further study and research. The study specifically sought to understand whether coping strategies explain the relationship between perceived social support and positive body image. The participants were 157 women aged between 26 and 50, who answered three scales: the Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and the Brief Cope. The results showed that social support has a significant positive impact on coping strategies, suggesting that the greater the social support, the better the active coping strategies. In addition, it was found that social support also has a positive influence on body image. Even considering coping strategies, social support maintained a direct and significant effect on body image. It was also found that social support improves coping strategies, which in turn promote a positive body image, partially mediating this relationship. These results have important implications for practice and research, highlighting the relevance of social support and the role of coping strategies in improving positive body image in young women with breast cancer
