Abstract(s)
Objective: The therapist can contribute to the success of therapy and add value through personal qualities (Baldwin & Imel, 2013) and a collaborative relationship with the client. Therefore, the therapist’s interpersonal skills may influence client progress in therapy (Anderson, McClintock, Himawan, Song & Patterson, 2016) and the quality of the alliance (Ardito & Rabellino, 2011). However, being a dual relation, it would be beneficial to analyse how these skills are perceived by the client. Method: Based on the elaboration and adaptation of scales – FIS-C (Facilitative Interpersonal Skills – Client) and Session Rating scale – SRS – that allow that analysis by the client, and the study of the psychometric characteristics. The completion of the scales was performed by 205 participants, attending psychotherapy. Results: Both scales present good levels of validity, reliability, sensitivity and adjustment. With a good internal consistency, in totality and for the items that constitute them. There is a positive correlation between the interpersonal skills of the therapist and the quality of the alliance, being the Verbal Fluency factor the one with the highest correlation. Conclusions: These data show that the interpersonal skills of the therapist influence the quality of the established alliance, and there are some factors that stand out.
