ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to find out if there are any differences in self-perceptions and self-esteem levels, in the importance given to self concept domains in children who live with their fathers and those who have non-resident fathers. The sample is composed by 42 children, from both genders (50% Boys, 50% girls), that are in the 6th grade, with ages between 11 and 14 years. Data were collected using the self-perception profile for children and a sociodemographic questionnaire. There are not any statistically significant differences in self-esteem and self concept levels as a function of father absence. There are not any differences in negative self perceptions between the two groups and socioeconomic status and father absence time were not associated.
