Abstract(s)
Explorando as forƧas e contraforƧas
The present paper, using Bionās and Winnicottās conceptual models, seeks to think about the possibilities and impossibilities of the human subject to metabolize his living experience. Process that, if successeful, exposing oneās mind to truth allows for psychic growth and transformation, contributing for the feeling of being emotionally alive. Process that, if compromised, confronts the subject with meaninglessness and nothingness, bringing him closer to the āblack holeā disaster that Grostein tells us about. Exploring the forces and counterforces that catalyse and inhibit the transformative processes, we intercrossed the notions of catastrophic change and fear of breakdown, bringing light to the clash between oneās desire for life and oneās fear of death. Using Hollwaysās and Jeffersonās instrument ā Free Association Narrative Interview Method ā we interviewed one subject and looked into the paths he went through in his transforming of his experience and of himself, searching for possible catastrophic change phomena.Concluding, we sought to explore the concept of area of personal omnipotence, advocating that breakdown experiences, weakening the former in multiple ways, make the black hole disaster more prone to occur. We also developed the hypothesis that omnipotence, in magical thinking form, might be used as a last resource in the subjectās attempt to maintain a relationship with himself and to rescue himself from the fall into the nothingness, condemning him nonetheless to a certain death.
