O impacto do desemprego no funcionamento familiar e na ideação suicida

Perante o actual panorama económico nacional e internacional, torna-se pertinente estudarmos o impacto que o desemprego e a crise económica mundial tem no funcionamento familiar e ideação suicida, colmatando assim a falha existente na literatura no que toca a esta temática. Deste modo, com este trabalho, tentou-se perceber se os níveis de ideação suicida variam em função da situação profissional da família (com/sem emprego) e os membros da família (mãe vs pai vs filho adolescente) e também se a situação profissional da família está relacionada com a ideação suicida, em que esta relação é mediada pelo funcionamento familiar (funcional vs disfuncional).
A amostra deste estudo é constituída por 28 agregados familiares, cada um composto por três elementos: pai, mãe e filho adolescente. Perfaz assim um total de 84 participantes – 56 pais e 28 filhos – sendo que destes 28 agregados familiares, 14 encontram-se numa situação de desemprego. Aos participantes do estudo foi pedido que respondessem à Escala de Avaliação de Flexibilidade e Coesão Familiar – FACES IV (Olson, 2011) e ao Questionário de Ideação Suicida – QIS (Ferreira & Castela, 1999).
Os resultados do presente estudo, indicam-nos que famílias que se encontrem sem emprego apresentam maiores índices de ideação suicida, não havendo no entanto diferenças significativas nestes índices entre pai, mãe e filho adolescente. Concluiu-se também que o funcionamento familiar tem um efeito mediador na relação entre a situação profissional da família e a ideação suicida.
ABSTRACT: Given the current national and international economic environment , it is pertinent to study the impact that the global economic crisis and the unemployment have on the family dynamics and the suicidal ideation , thus closing the existing gap in the literature with regard to this issue . With this work , we tried to understand whether levels of suicidal ideation vary depending on the professional status of the family (with / without employment), family members (mother vs. father vs. adolescent ), and also if the professional status of the family is related to suicidal ideation – baring in mind that this relation is mediated by the family dynamics (functional vs. dysfunctional ) . The sample consists of 28 households , each consisting of three elements : father, mother and teenage. This makes a total of 84 participants – 56 parents and 28 sons. Of these 28 households, 14 are in a situation of unemployment . Study participants were asked to answer the Assessment Scale Flexibility and Family Cohesion - FACES IV (Olson , 2011) and the Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire - QIS (Ferreira & Castilla , 1999). The results of this study show us that families who are unemployed have higher rates of suicidal ideation. However there weren’t significant differences in the results between father, mother and teenage son/ daughter. Moreover, it was found that family functioning has a mediating effect on the relation between employment status and family suicidal ideation.
