O funcionamento familiar, a ideação suicida e o suporte social no desemprego: que relação?

| dc.description.abstract | Face às últimas taxas de desemprego e às falhas a nível relacional na literatura relativamente a esta temática em Portugal, torna-se importante estudar a relação do desemprego com o funcionamento familiar, com a ideação suicida e com o suporte social. Logo, este estudo tentou analisar se o funcionamento familiar e os níveis de ideação suicida variam em função da situação profissional da família (com emprego vs sem emprego) e dos elementos familiares (pai vs mãe vs filho adolescente), e também se esses mesmos níveis variam em função do suporte social (baixo vs alto). Para isso, o estudo contou com uma amostra constituída por 34 famílias (102 participantes- 68 pais e 34 filhos adolescentes), sendo que destas 18 encontravam-se no desemprego. Os participantes responderam a um Questionário Sociodemográfico, à Escala da Flexibilidade e Coesão Familiar (FACES IV- Olson, 2011), à Escala de Satisfação com o Suporte Social (ESSS- Ribeiro, 1999) e ao Questionário de Ideação Suicida (QIS- Ferreira & Castela, 1999). Os resultados, ao contrário do esperado, indicam-nos que não existem diferenças ao nível do funcionamento familiar entre as famílias com e sem emprego e nos elementos familiares, bem como, ao nível da ideação suicida entre o suporte social baixo e alto. | dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT------ Given the latest unemployment rates and the fault relational level in the literature level on this issue in Portugal, it is important to study the relationship of unemployment, with family functioning, with suicidal ideation and social support. Therefore, this study attempted to examine whether the family functioning and levels of suicidal ideation vary according to the employment status of household (employed vs. unemployed) and family members (father vs mother vs teen), and also if those same levels vary according to the social support (low vs high). For this, the study included a sample of 34 families (102 participants- 68 parents and 34 teenagers), and of these 18 were in the unemployment. Participants completed a Demographic Questionnaire, the Scale Flexibility and Family Cohesion (FACES IV Olson, 2011), the Satisfaction Scale with Social Support (ESSS- Ribeiro, 1999) and the Suicide Ideation Questionnaire (QIS- Ferreira & Castela, 1999). The results, on the opposite to expectations, show us that there are no differences in family functioning between families with and without employment and family members, as well as, at the level of suicidal ideation between low and high social support. However, according to the expected, there was a main effect of employment status in suicidal ideation (F(1)= 10.06, p= .002), in other words, families without employment (M = 1.84) have higher suicidal ideation, than households with employment (M = 1.11).
