Abstract(s)
remorso, o patriotismo, o sentimento grupal e as ideologias.
The autobiography, American Sniper, portrays the life of Chris Kyle, before, during and after his service in one of the most controversial wars ever; the Iraq Invasion. Through psychoanalytic perspective, we analysed the psychological processes inherent to his life as soldier, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), the lack of guilt experienced when he kills and why become part of an ideology. We considered the culture where he lived, American patriotism, and the nation’s respect for the armed forces. We also addressed how the military perceive each other; the relationships they have and the strength of these relationships. Many authors have studied the central themes of this dissertation, such as guilt, patriotism, group morale and ideology. So our main question is: Why did Chris join this ideology? Trying to understand the consequences of it in his internal world.
