Abstract(s)
The concept of countertransference received, through decades, several attributions, evolving from a threat to the analytical process to a catalyst of that same process. The concept had been understood and interpreted in many ways by the different psychoanalytic models. In a literature review the evolution of this concept is traced alongside with its allowance by different models, giving account of his different meanings. In the empirical study we intend to realize how, in the analytical practice, the concept had evolved, its appropriation by psychoanalysts, and how it can be effective in practice. After interviewing five psychoanalysts and submitted the result to a thematic analysis we found four pairs of themes: Acted / reflected; Classic / contemporary; Repeat / Difference. These themes were operationalized to capture the different moments of the speech. On a final reflection countertransference emerged as a concept that reflects the multiplicity of concepts attributed to it with a large plasticity and a inherent capacity to adapt to different clinical situations.
