Abstract(s)
do sexo masculino.
Index for Children and Adolescents (ERICA) e Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for
Children and Adolescents (ERQ-CA) para avaliar a regulação emocional.
ABSTRACT: Current literature emphasizes the importance of establishing secure attachment relationships for the development of more adaptive emotional regulation skills and, at the same time, the acquisition of social skills that prevent feelings of social and emotional loneliness from emerging. Therefore, the central aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of emotional regulation in the relationship between attachment and social and emotional loneliness in the family and peer group of Portuguese adolescents attending secondary school. At the same time, it is pertinent to expand current knowledge on adolescents' representations of attachment and to conceptualize loneliness as a multidimensional construct. The sample comprised 100 adolescents, 47 of whom were female and 53 male. The average age was 16.67 and the standard deviation was 1.064. The instruments used were the Adolescent Script Assessment (ASA) to assess the quality of attachment, the Relational Provisions Loneliness Questionnaire (RPLQ) to assess social and emotional loneliness in the family and peer group and the Emotion Regulation Index for Children and Adolescents (ERICA) and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for Children and Adolescents (ERQ-CA) to assess emotional regulation. The results showed that the attachment script is a direct predictor of suppression (β = -.41, p<.001), but not of cognitive reappraisal (β = -.05, p>.05). Furthermore, the attachment script is a direct predictor of loneliness in the family (β = .33, p<.001), but not of loneliness with peers (β = .004, p>.05). However, the results suggest a total mediation between the quality of attachment, suppression, and loneliness with peers. Thus, young people who have lower values for quality of attachment and more suppression have higher values for loneliness with peers.
