Abstract(s)
The current study aims to estimate the prevalence of child sexual abuse (CSA) in the Azores islands. A sample of 200 azorean youth was collected, whose ages are between 18 to 25 years old. To collect the data I used the google docs platform, introducing the “Childhood Sexual Experiences Questionnaire, Altman (2005). The results show that 16,5% of all participants reported at least one sexual abusive experience before the age of 12. There weren’t found great statistical differences between males and females, although a higher prevalence in the last one is notorious. I also concluded that, in most cases, the perpetrator was a friend or at least known to the child, in a way that strangers correspond to a small percentage of all the perpetrators.
