Abstract(s)
This study aims to bridge the gap in the area of grief regarding the tasks faced by bereaved people after the death of a loved one. Thus, it intends to conclude on the effect that the number of tasks performed by individuals has on their grieving process, as well as to ascertain which category(s) have the most impact on this process, deepening which tasks, in particular, are predictors of Complicated Grief. Consisting of 202 participants, the sample, through a post-mortem checklist and the Prolonged Grief Disorder (PG-13) and using simple and multiple linear regressions, allowed us to conclude: i) the large the number of tasks performed, higher will be the associated mourning score (assuming values greater than 25 indicate clinically significant complicated mourning); ii) Formal/Bureaucratic and Personal/Affective tasks assert themselves as significant predictors of grief and may contribute to Complicated Grief; iii) there are five tasks (two bureaucratic and three affective) that present themselves as significant predictors of grief, leading to it’s accomplishment contributing to a Complicated Grief experience. Thus, given the results obtained, they can be taken into account not only in the context of bereavement therapy, but also at the governmental level, namely as regards the Formal/Bureaucratic tasks to be performed mourning may be reduced.
