Abstract(s)
Medicamente Assistida (PMA), veio possibilitar a muitas mulheres homossexuais o
ABSTRACT: The socio-political and cultural changes occurred in the last decades, mostly in western countries, have been reflected in a greater openness and acceptance of different family configurations. The emergence of several technics of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) allows many homosexual women the access to parenthood without involvement of a male figure. The combination of these two factors greatly increased the number of lesbian couples who decided to plan their families. In Portugal, the investigation with lesbian planned families who have resorted to Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) is scarce. Given the importance of realize the universe of these families, the present investigation proposes, through a qualitative methodology, to understand the psychological experiences of a homosexual couple during the transition to homoparenthood. With five semi-structured interviews, we step into the couple’s universe and in the meaningful experiences about being a lesbian (biological and social) mother. We concluded that for this couple, the decision of having a child comes up in the sequence of much deliberation, negotiation and planning. There is a strong idealization about familiar integrity and shared parenthood. However, the significant experiences reflect themselves in different ways in the psychological experiences of both mothers.
