O corredor popular de maratona normalmente enfrenta a prova com uma motivação muito alta mas com excesso de tensão, dúvidas e preocupação relacionados com a transcendência subjectiva da prova e da possibilidade de não atingir os seus objectivos. Desta forma o estudo de aspectos psicológicos como a motivação, autoconfiança, percepção do estado físico, ansiedade/activação e apoio social são importantes para melhor compreender este tipo de maratonista. Este estudo pretende saber qual o estado/perfil psicológico do atleta de maratona e verificar qual a influência da idade e da experiência nas 5 sub-escalas anteriormente referidas. Para isso, utilizou-se uma amostra portuguesa de 153 corredores com idades compreendidas entre os 25 e os 67 anos, que participaram na maratona popular do Porto na edição 2008 e 2009 e que passaram pelo stand de apoio psicológico ao corredor popular de maratona. Como instrumento foi utilizado o Perfil Psicológico Óptimo para o Desportista Individual (PODIUM), versão portuguesa. Após a análise dos resultados, verificou-se que o atleta de maratona tem um perfil psicológico muito aproximado do perfil Óptimo desejado, destacando-se uma alta motivação, autoconfiança, percepção do estado físico e uma baixa ansiedade. Observou-se ainda que a idade não influenciava nenhuma das competências psicológicas presentes no PODIUM e que a experiência dos corredores também não as afectava, à excepção da sub-escala ansiedade.
ABSTRACT: The popular marathon runner usually faces the race with a very high motivation, but with too much tension, doubt and concern related to the Subjective transcendence of the competition and the possibility of not achieving his/her goals. Thus, the study of psychological aspects such as motivation, self-confidence, perception of physical state, anxiety/ activation and social support, is important to understand better this kind of runner. This study seeks to ascertain what is the psychological profile of the popular runner and verify the influence of age and experience in the five sub-scales mentioned above. For this, a Portuguese sample of 153 runners aged between 25 and 67 years was used. These runners participated in the Porto’s popular marathon in 2008 and 2009 edition and visited the stand of psychological support for the popular marathon runner. As instrument was used the optimal psychological individual for the sportsman profile (PODIUM) Portuguese version. After analyzing the results, it was verified that the popular runner has a psychological profile that is very close to the Optimum profile desired, highlighting, a high motivation, self confidence, perception of the physical and a low anxiety. It was also observed that the age did not influence any of the sub-scales present in the PODIUM, and the experience (with the exception of anxiety) did not affect any of these sub-scales either.
