ABSTRACT: Introduction: Family caregivers experience heightened vulnerability due to their involvement in providing care and the emotional closeness they maintain with the sick person and are therefore at high risk of developing mental health complications, including Prolonged Grief Disorder. The EMPOWER program is a brief cognitive-behavioral intervention focused on reducing caregivers’symptoms of stress and experiential avoidance. This program has been shown to be effective in the population of relatives of patients in intensive care, however, the benefits of its application in the context of palliative care are not yet known. Objective: To explore and identify the therapeutic factors identified by family caregivers subjected to the EMPOWER program. Method: A qualitative approach was used through the thematic analysis of data obtained from semi-structured interviews conducted with 10 family caregivers in palliative care at the Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte, who were subject to this program. Results and Conclusion: The therapeutic factors identified by the family caregivers were grouped into three themes: (a) Therapeutic effect of the techniques; (b) Therapeutic effect of the relational aspects, and (c) General benefits of the intervention. The aspects of the program that, from the participants' perspective, make this intervention beneficial and appropriate to their specific needs are discussed. These results contribute to demonstrating the usefulness of the EMPOWER program in preventing bereavement complications for family caregivers in Palliative Care
