Abstract(s)
Through the literature it is possible to verify that suicidal behaviors are a public heath problem and they are verified as the second cause of death in young aduls with aged between 15 and 29 years ([WHO], 2014). The presente investigation aims to clarify the relationship that exists between relational and individual variables with self-injurious behaviors and suicide attempts in young adults. This study is composed of a sample of 190 participants, aged between 18 and 25 years. The instruments that were used are the FACES IV Family Cohesion and Flexibility Scale (Olson, 2011), Family Climate Inventoy (Teodoro et al., 2009), Clinical Outcome Routine Evaluation – Outcome Measure (Evans et al., 2000), UCLA Loneliness Scale (Félix,1989), Instrument of Assessment of Feeling of Belonging (Monteiro & Maia, 2009), Self-harm Behavior Inventory (Duarte et al., 2019) and Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (Reynolds, 1998). The results showed that 51.6% (N = 98) refer to having already performed self-injurious behaviors, while 48.4% (N= 92) do not have self-injurious behaviors, with regard to suicide attempts, 88.4% said they had never done any SA, 7.9% said they had already done 1 SA, 2.1% said they had already done 2 to 10 SA and 1.6% said they had done more than 10 SA. There was also a significant negative association between mental well-being, family functioning, feeling of belonging and loneliness with self-injurious behaviors and suicide attempts, as well as a significant positive association between suicidal ideation; self-injurious behaviors and suicide attempts.
