As lutas espirituais e saúde mental: um estudo sobre o papel moderador do nível de religiosidade

Este estudo propõe-se a explorar a relação entre as lutas espirituais e a saúde mental, comparando indivíduos com diferentes níveis de envolvimento religioso.
Um total de 194 indivíduos, cristãos e não cristãos de ambos os géneros, responderam à Escala de Envolvimento Religioso de Duke (DUREL), ao Inventário de Saúde Mental - short form (MHI-SF) e à Escala de Lutas Espirituais- Short form (RSS).
Os resultados obtidos permitiram observar que as lutas espirituais predizem negativamente a saúde mental, confirmando que experiências de conflito espiritual, estão associadas a maior sofrimento psicológico. Verificou-se, ainda, que níveis mais elevados de envolvimento religioso estão associados a níveis mais baixos de lutas espirituais. E, adicionalmente verificou-se que o envolvimento religioso não alterou a relação entre as lutas espirituais e a saúde mental, mantendo-se esta associação estável, independentemente do nível de religiosidade.
This study aims to explore the relationship between spiritual struggles and mental health by comparing individuals with different levels of religious involvement. A total of 194 individuals, Christians and non-Christians of both genders, responded to the Duke University Religious Engagement Scale (DUREL), the Mental Health Inventory - short form (MHI-SF), and the Spiritual Struggles Scale - Short form (RSS). The results obtained showed that spiritual struggles negatively predict mental health, confirming that experiences of spiritual conflict, are associated with greater psychological distress. It was also found that higher levels of religious involvement are associated with lower levels of spiritual struggles. Additionally, it was found that religious involvement did not alter the relationship between spiritual struggles and mental health, with this association remaining stable regardless of the level of religiosity.
