Abstract(s)
O grau académico e a idade
ABTRACT: The present study investigated attitudes towards the Double Standard of Sexuality and its relationship with gender stereotypes and gender equality in a representative sample of the Portuguese population. The investigation included 802 participants, mostly women, with an age range between 18 and 93 years. For this purpose, a quantitative approach was used, including a sociodemographic questionnaire, the New DPS Scale (EDPS), the Gender Stereotype Scale (EEG), and the Gender Equality Scale. (EIG). The results showed that, although attitudes towards DPS are generally neutral, women tend to recognize DPS more than men. The correlations between the scales indicate a weak relationship between DPS and gender egalitarian attitudes, and no significant correlation was observed between DPS and gender stereotypes. Moreover, the male group scored higher in attitudes towards gender inequality compared to the female group. This dissertation suggests that, although the DPS is still present, attitudes towards gender are gradually converging in a more equitable direction, indicating a gradual transition process in contemporary Portuguese society. The academic degree and age also influence these attitudes. This research emphasizes the importance of continuing to investigate the complexity of attitudes towards gender and sexuality.
