Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to analyze the levels of depression, anxiety and stress according to the practice of physical exercise, gender, age group and the amount of time (months) of physical exercise practice. A total of 300 individuals participated, 140 males and 160 females, aged between 18 and 40 years. The material used was a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Anxiety, Depression and Stress Scale (EADS-21) developed by Lovibond and Lovibond (1995) and adapted to the Portuguese population by Pais-Ribeiro, Honrado, and Leal (2004). The results allowed us to understand that there are significant differences between the group of participants who practice physical exercise and the group of participants who do not practice, with higher values of depression anxiety and stress in individuals who do not exercise. Between genders, there are no significant differences in levels of depression, anxiety and stress. It was found that age does not correlate significantly with levels of depression, anxiety and stress, as happens between the variable amount of time (months) of physical exercise practice and depression and stress, contrary to what was observed with the variable anxiety, which indicates that when the amount of time (months) of physical exercise increases, anxiety levels decrease.
