Parassónias (sejam elas Pesadelos, Despertares Confusionais, Bruxismo, Pesadelos, Terrores
ABSTRACT: Problem: The sleep disorder investigation in ADHD is not considered advanced, along with its qualitative results, therefore this is a reason why it should be explored. The relationship between ADHD and parasomnias is an area currently underdeveloped. Objective: Study the relationship between sleep disorders and ADHD in children aged 6 to 10, previously diagnosed with ADHD by a Developmental Pediatrician, according to the DSM - V. Method: The sample consisted of 20 parents (N = 20) of children between 6 and 10 years old who addressed the queries of Pediatrics and Developmental Psychology Unit of Neurodevelopment and Behavior of Children and Adolescents in Hospital da Luz . Two instruments were used: the Conners Parent Rating Scales and Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) , both adapted to the Portuguese population . Results: There is a strong relationship between ADHD and parasomnias, as well as ADHD and Respiratory Disorder. Conclusion: increased frequency in parasomnias (whether Nightmares, Confusional Arousals, bruxism, nightmares, night terrors, etc.) reduces oppositional behavior and hyperactivity; the existence of parasomnias decreases affective instability and perfectionism in children.
