Abstract(s)
Fear of death has been associated with psychopathology, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, among others. However, little is known about the relationship between fear of death and sexual function. This study aims to analyze the interrelationships between fear of death, sexual function, fear of COVID-19, depression, anxiety and stress. In total, 443 individuals participated in this study (306 female, 137 male) with a subsample integrating 308 participants (203 female, 105 male) that had sexual relationships in the previous month. For this study, it was used the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (EADS-21), the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), the Female Sexual Distress Scale- Revised (FSDS-R), the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT), the Collect-Lest Fear of Death Scale and the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S). The results revealed positive interrelationships between fear of death, fear of COVID-19, depression, anxiety and stress. In women, fear of COVD-19 correlated with greater sexual distress, lower sexual desire, and lower sexual arousal. In men, symptoms of premature ejaculation correlated with fear of death. In women and in the total sample, fear of death was predicted by greater anxiety, younger age and greater fear of COVID-19. In men, fear of death was predicted by younger age, greater fear of COVID-19 and more symptoms of premature ejaculation.
