Abstract(s)
The current changes in the organizational reality of teams, especially in relation to their increasing virtuality and turnover of members, raises performance problems due to the poor familiarity between the various group constituents. Therefore, it is necessary to find a way to develop the perception of Familiarity, but in an effective way and that consumes less time than simple socialization among people. On the other hand, Synchrony seems to have similar effects to those of familiarity, and its induction does not require a very high temporal extension. The question then arises: what is the relation between synchrony and familiarity in a virtual group context? Two studies were conducted in order to answer the raised question, so that in Study 1 the Synchrony was manipulated (with the main objective of evaluating the effects on the perceived Familiarity) and in Study 2 it was manipulated the Familiarity (with the main objective to evaluate the effects on perceived Interpersonal Synchrony). In both studies the results reveal some problems in the ability of the experimental conditions to predict the very construct they manipulate, as well as to have effects on the respective dependent variables. In this way, it is mainly discussed the lights that this investigation may have brought with respect to the difficulty in manipulating the presented factors and the ways of solving these problems.
