Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: Since it’s appearance, the study of Social representations has been explored by several areas, applied to diversified social contexts. This work relates to the study of social representations. The aim of this article is to establish a comprehension of the relations between the concepts of social representations and intergroup relations, through a search on the existing literature and on the presented theories. The article begins with a introduction to the theme in analysis, including an overview of history of studying the concepts. The reader will be presented with the socio cognitive processes of the representations. Then several theories of intergroup relations are presented. Finally the dynamic of the multiple relations established by the individuals is explored, as well as the interaction with the represented social world. Literature suggests a dynamic interaction between the represented social reality and the relations that we establish, having as reference, the groups to which we belong. The social representation of a group to which an individual or individuals belong, with whom we establish, an interaction, greatly determines the type of interaction we establish. However, the nature of the interaction itself, established with several members of a certain social group contributes to a more comprehensive social representation. Thus we encounter a dynamic in which the first conditions the second, and the second shapes the first. The article ends with some considerations and some recommendations for future studies.
