ABSTRACT: Objective: Assess levels of Anxiety, Depression and Stress as well as the Quality of Life of parents of deaf children. Method: We resorted to the Instituto Jacob Rodrigues Pereira and Hearing Aid Center Widex, collecting a sample of 56 subjects, 28 with children whose deafness was diagnosed at birth and 28 with later diagnosis. The evaluation protocol consists of: 1) Questionnaire of Sample Characterization; 2) Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and 3) WHOQOL-Bref. Results and Conclusion: The results have included the presence of overall normal range for Anxiety (6.04), Depression (8.32) and Stress (11.64), and the perception of a satisfactory Quality of Life (63.84%). However, it was found that the time of acquisition or discovery of deafness and gender of children influence the levels of anxiety (p=0.009, p=0.006) and depression (p=0.021, p=0.020). In addition, the presence of satisfactory economic conditions (associated with employability of parents), the inclusion of children in special education, the existence of monitoring, being a membership of a nuclear family, the presence of two or more children (with only one deaf), the absence of perceived integration difficulties and the nonexistence of cochlear implants are contributing factors for parents to perceive a better quality of life, balancing their own mental health.
